Youth Leaders Mentorship Program

Description

PING conducts a yearlong course Youth Leaders Mentorship Program for orphans and vulnerable teenagers, ages 13-19, which aims to involve young community members in some of PING’s current technology projects. The program educates the youth, teaching them both IT skills and the process of creating innovative projects using the real world experience that we are dealing with everyday.

The program educates the youth, teaching them basic computer skills as well as more advanced skills in video editing, web design and software programming as well as some lessons focused on budgeting, public speaking, project management, and time management. In addition the program allows participants to get a close look at the workings of all PING tech projects. Students who have shown keen interest or talent continue on to take higher level IT classes and are presented with internship opportunities with PING.

Goal / Long-term Vision

PING’s goal with the Mentorship Program is that participants will graduate from the program fully competent in the use of basic computer applications, as well as some additional advanced skills, and be able to use these skills to improve their academic performance, enhance their talents, and achieve their ambitions. The long-term vision of the program is to create a generation of problem solvers/change agents in society by empowering youth with life skills, leadership development and IT training so that they are able to conceive, incubate and implement technology solutions to the challenges their communities face.
