Description
In the Patient Referral Project PING has built a system that assists HIV testing centers with the referral and tracking of clients that get tested for HIV. HIV Positive clients are referred for treatment and counseling at clinics, while HIV negative clients are referred for various preventative measures and other services (circumcision, family planning, cervical screening etc). PING is exploring the addition of location-based services to this project. This addition would potentially allow clients to be able to request the location of the nearest clinic that provides the service for which they are referred. Many people in Botswana that interact with the health system from non-governmental/NGO sources are at risk of not making it into the formal health sector. The goal of this project is to encourage people to complete the services for which they are referred and to get people who test positive for HIV into the formal health sector immediately so as to extend their lives and reduce the cost of their care over the long term.
