Lab Test Results Via SMS Project
Description
In the Lab Test Results Project PMTCT patients can opt in to be informed via SMS when their lab results are ready instead of waiting for laboratory facilities to follow-up with them. PING is utilizing the Post Office (a PING developed integration engine that allows sharing of relevant information between disparate health information systems) to exchange data between PING’s SMS platform and Disalab (an information management software that is being used at referral laboratory facilities in Botswana). PING and the Ministry of Health are piloting in several clinics in and around Gaborone specifically with lab results for Early Infant Diagnosis. In the upcoming months efforts will be made to expand the lab test results to TB cultures. The long-term goal is for this service to be available to all patients having lab work done in Botswana regardless of the type of test being conducted.
